January 2010

We love this living room by Denver-based interior design firm O Interior Design.

To bring a young family’s modern energy into their home, O Interior Design focused on neutrals with pops of vibrant colors.  Large-scale patterns provide rhythm and an energetic texture for the background, against which well-placed yellow accents really pop.  Chrome accents that add a dose of glamour mix with warm wood grains, resulting in an inviting atmosphere with personality.

Nature makes a statement at Evolve Living

You might remember Robyn Woodhall and her natural-chic showroom called Evolve Living (that pairs with her interior design company, Towne Interiors) from Mountain Living’s Top 20 Under 40 feature in the July 2009 issue (click here to view it: http://bit.ly/agAzwU). Known for creating sanctuaries for real-life people, Woodhall pairs a calm palette with clean lines and lots of natural touches. Sound like your idea of home? Here, we bring you two favorites from Evolve Living to help you get the look.

Stone Bowls
Give these earthy bowls a home in your kitchen, living room or bedroom, and not only will you have a place to store your fruit or pot a plant, you’ll feel that much closer to nature. Go small (6 x 6 x 5) or big (31 x 20 x 10) or pick a size that’s in between. $90-$315, www.evolveliving.com

Root Column Forms
As intriguing as they are natural, these root forms are the perfect accessory to add height—and texture—to a space that needs a boost. (Each column stands about four feet tall.) $1,000, www.evolveliving.com

When we visit Santa Fe, one of our favorite places to stay is at the Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi. The luxe boutique hotel offers stellar service, delicious cuisine and beautiful rooms (just 58 in all), each with hand-crafted furnishings, a four-poster bed and traditional viga and latilla ceilings — all warmed by a cozy kiva fireplace. And, best of all, it has the best location in town, just a few steps from the plaza.

Now there’s an added incentive to stay: The Ski Santa Fe Package for Two. Now through February 28, 2010, stay for two nights and the third night is free. You’ll enjoy:

• Three nights of accommodations in a traditional guest room (pictured above)
• Breakfast for two each day in the Anasazi Restaurant (we love the blue corn-and-blueberry flapjacks and the Ranchero Breakfast Skillet)
• Parking each day
• Two adult, full-day lift tickets for two days at Ski Santa Fe

Situated in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Ski Santa Fe is just 16 miles from the heart of historic Santa Fe and the inn. Ski Santa Fe offers 1,725 vertical feet of skiing, 660 acres of terrain and 72 trails; the longest run is 3 miles. Think there aren’t big mountains in Santa Fe? The New Millennium Triple Chairlift will drop you off at 12,075 feet.

Package price: Sun.-Wed.: $758 + tax; Thurs.-Sat.: $878 + tax
Offered Jan 1, 2010 – Feb. 28, 2010

And… if you’re flying into the Santa Fe Airport from L.A. or Dallas, present your American Eagle boarding pass at check-in to receive a room upgrade based on availability.

The devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti has left millions of people in a moment of dire need, without homes or the basic necessities for survival.

Here at ML, we’re looking for ways to help, and we’re starting with something everyone can do: simply text “Haiti” to 90999 to send a $10 donation to the Red Cross.  The money will be used to purchase goods in the country at a lower cost.

It’s disasters like this that bring giving to the forefront of our attention, but we’ve just discovered a stylish way to keep it top of mind every day. Designed by Juliska, the “Charity Piggy” is made in Portugal of the same stoneware used for all Juliska products (this little piggy is shown in the “Pewter Stoneware” finish).  Each bank costs $48, and Juliska will donate $8 per charity piggy sold between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2010 (with a minimum donation of $50,000) to Save the Children to benefit children in need in the United States and around the world.

We plan to place one prominently in our homes and make donations large or small throughout the year. When the bank is full, we’ll send its contents to our charity of choice.

The piggy bank will be sold beginning in March at Neiman Marcus locations nationwide and on the Juliska website. For more information or to order (beginning in March), visit www.juliska.com
