There’s a new wave of modern design in Colorado, and now you can participate through Denver by Design, a series of design events and exhibitions airing at the vintage-and-modern home goods stop Mod Livin’, all taking place during the month of August. Seven design experts have judged more than 60 works by local creatives in order to bring you the top 25 best modern expressions of furniture, objects and art–all for sale and on display at the showroom during August. Or take part in "5 x 5": a conversation series during each of the five Mondays in August from 6-7:30 pm, where an artist will host a discussion about his or her work. If you can’t make it to Denver to celebrate all that’s mod, go to modlivin.com and vote for your favorite of the 25 designs.

What better way to pass the summer hours (and the holiday weekend) than by enjoying beautiful art outdoors? If you’re near the Mile High City over the Fourth of July, swing by the Cherry Creek Arts Festival, which takes place in a Denver hot spot–the Cherry Creek North Merchant District–from July 3-5. It’s the Festival’s 19th annual celebration of visual, culinary and performing arts, and as one of Colorado’s most anticipated summer festivities, the tour de fine arts draws 35,000 people to its grounds year after year. And don’t forget to stop by and visit us at the Mountain Living booth! For more information, visit cherryarts.org.

Last night, at ASID Colorado’s Eleventh Annual Interior Design Awards, Associates III took the honors in the "Sustainable Home" category for Mountain Living’s Natural Dream Home! It’s no wonder the home’s interiors received accolades: every fixture and furnishing, from recycled concrete and glass countertops to bunk beds crafted from reclaimed Wyoming snow fence, was selected for its sustainability and style. To take a look inside, click here. Congratulations to the team at Associates III and Mountain Living for making it all happen!

Just outside of Santa Fe, there’s a hotel and resort called The Bishop’s Lodge Ranch Resort & Spa that’s out of the ordinary. For starters, it’s set on 450 acres at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and yet it’s only three miles from the Historic Plaza district of downtown Santa Fe. Then there’s the world-class Spa and Wellness Center, a full-fledged fitness center (which is home to Santa Fe’s largest outdoor pool), miles upon miles of trails, and–our favorite feature–its ranch-style twist.
This summer, there’s even more going on at Bishop’s Lodge than the usual perks. Here’s the skinny:
Wednesdays and Fridays from May 15 through September 4, The Cowboy Cookout & Trail Ride Dinner: Take off on horseback at 4:30 pm and ride to the top of the mesa for a full ranch meal. What’s on the menu? Grilled flat iron steak, homemade BBQ chicken, ranch burgers, corn on the cob, cole slaw, potato salad, fruit cobbler–the works. Dinner only is $59 per person; for both the ride and dinner, $119.
Saturday nights: "Savor Live and Amplified" brings the beat in the Bishop’s Lodge living room for a weekly dance fiesta. From 6 to 10 pm, Cuban tapas and mojito specials.
Thursdays in June: Jazz by the Pool with drink specials and bar fare from 6-8:30 pm.

In partnership with the Santa Fe based Museum of New Mexico, Kravet has produced its fourth fabric collection inspired by textiles from state museums. Taking inspiration from Navajo and Pueblo Indian rugs and ceremonial costumes at the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture, Kravet has created a series of bold geometric designs and traditional southwestern patterns. The fabrics range from primary bold colors of reds and oranges to an updated indigo blue story fading into a more neutral gray palette. To accompany that, Kravet crafted a group of textural stripes adapted from Peruvian ponchos, Moroccan floor coverings and Turkish tunics found in the ethnic textile collection of the Museum of International Folk Art.

Jewelry maker Barbara Heinrich—working mainly in 18-karat gold, platinum and gemstones—molds metal to mimic the shapes and textures of nature. Just check out the detail on the bracelet pictured here.

“Creating jewelry is very natural to me,” Heinrich says, “yet it takes a very high concentration of a special kind, an inner listening and seeing. This takes me to a secret garden, a place in consciousness where things of great beauty and grace exist and are absolute realities.”
Barbara Heinrich will be featured at an artist reception at the Telluride Gallery of Fine Art on December 29th, 2008 from 5:30-7:30 pm.
