The editorial staff here at Mountain Living is feeling pretty good today. We just sent another fabulous issue off to the printer (you don’t get to see it until May, though) and, as always, we’re going out to celebrate.
Sometimes, these celebrations involve a long lunch and taking the rest of the day off, sometimes it’s a pedicure or massage, and without fail, it always involves chocolate. But this time around, we’re celebrating by spending the afternoon with Manet, Degas, Monet and Renoir.
That’s right, we’re heading to the Denver Art Museum to check out the Inspiring Impressionism exhibition.
Highlights include traditional landscapes, still lifes and portraits by Old Masters such as Claude Lorrain, Jean-Siméon Chardin and Frans Hals, that are paired with Impressionist works.
We’re making a beeline for Paul Cézanne’s large-scale Still Life with Statuette (1894-95), which is on view along with the original sculpture and Cézanne drawings of the same subject.
The exhibition is on view through May 25, 2008 in the museum’s new Frederic C. Hamilton Building so if you’re in town, be sure to save an afternoon for it. www.denverartmuseum.org
Oh, and in case you were wondering, there will be chocolate, too. We already have reservations made for a little après-art snack!
