What do you do when you retire from the U.S. Senate?

If you are two-term Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell, you design jewelry, of course. And not just any jewelry, mind you. But beautiful haute couture-quality pieces inspired by his Native American heritage.

But it’s not your usual styles. "Now that I’m out and I sit with my feet in the creek, a flood of designs is pouring in," Nighthorse Campbell says.

The Indian Corn Bracelet (shown at right) is a great example of the artist’s fusion of traditional Indian designs with contemporary sensibilities. Corn, the basis of Native American life (and everyone else’s life too, if you agree with Michael Pollan, author of The Omnivore’s Dilemma), is stylistically reimagined with precious and semi-precious jewels set in an 18kt-gold cuff.
